10 Simple Content Creation Ideas for Small Business Owners

20/02/2023 Posted by Martin Bamford Ideas

Where can you turn for content creation inspiration when your small business marketing needs a boost in 2023?

We know it can be a challenge to create compelling content consistently. It’s why we work with so many small businesses in the Surrey Hills to take content creation off their plate.

But, if you choose to handle content creation in-house, you can use plenty of simple ideas to grow your business and build your brand.

Here are ten simple content creation ideas for small business owners.

1 – Share customer success stories

One of the most effective ways to build trust with your audience is by sharing customer success stories.

Whether it’s a case study, testimonial or video interview, showcasing your customers’ success can help build credibility and trust.

Remember, your customer should be the hero of your story. Your business and brand are the guides.

Place your customers at the front of your content marketing to attract similar, like-minded customers to your business.

2 – Highlight your team

People like doing business with people they like and trust.

Many small businesses operate anonymously regarding their key people, including every customer-facing staff member. This approach baffles me.

If I don’t know who I will be dealing with, I’m doubtful to enquire after visiting your website or social media.

Share behind-the-scenes stories and introduce your team members to your audience. This simple tip can help your customers feel more connected to your business.

3 – Answer FAQs

Every business gets questions from its customers. Consider turning the answer into a piece of valuable content each time you receive a question.

For the most frequently asked questions, you can add an FAQ page to your website or social media pages (pin an FAQ post with links).

You can save a lot of time for your customers and team by answering questions. Most importantly, you’re creating highly searchable answers to questions that positions you as the leading expert on that product or service.

4 – Share industry news

Position yourself as an industry expert by sharing relevant news and updates with your audience. Make sure you add some context each time you share the news and your opinion.

Sharing relevant pieces of industry news can be a great way to stay top-of-mind and show that you’re keeping up with the latest trends.

5 – Create how-to videos

Showcase your expertise by creating how-to videos that provide value to your audience.

Whether a DIY tutorial or a product demonstration, how-to videos can help position your business as a thought leader.

6 – Share infographics and photographs

Visual content like infographics and photos can be a great way to convey complex information in an easy-to-understand manner.

They say that a picture paints a thousand words. In this increasingly busy world, sharing imagery can quickly cut through the noise and get your message across.

Infographics and photos are also highly shareable, which can help expand your reach.

7 – Host a Q&A session

Engage with your audience by hosting a Q&A session on social media or through a live stream.

Hosting an online Q&A can be a great way to build relationships and answer any burning questions your audience may have.

Going live also introduces some of your personality to your target audience, allowing them to get to know the people behind your brand before they approach you to do business.

8 – Share your journey

People love a good story. Share your business journey with your audience, from the early days to where you are now.

One of our favourite content creators, Gary Vaynerchuk, encourages people to document their journey. Watch seller Tim Hayden does the same with his TikTok videos, with the catchphrase, love your journey.

Sharing your journey is an effective way to humanise your brand and make it more relatable.

9 – Create a podcast

Audio podcasts are a great way to share insights and expertise with your audience.

They’re also highly shareable, which can help increase your reach and build your brand.

One of the lovely things about podcasts is that you don’t have to create the content yourself. You can invite guests to appear on your show or discuss topics with a co-host.

10 – Offer exclusive content

Consider offering exclusive content to your email subscribers or social media followers.

Sharing additional, exclusive content can help build a loyal following and provide value to your audience.
